We Graced The Cover

It was last Fall when Jenifer, publisher of  Woman to Woman approached me, and asked if I would consider one of my photos on the cover of their no profit magazine. Well, I am no photographer, but love to shoot things that just speak to me, my heart. My answer was of course, I’d be honored. I told her to look through my photos, and a few months later we got back together. She and I both had been pretty busy, and no photo was decided at this time in late December. I then started sending her photos from my files of Springs passed..  When I came upon this one, no it is not your typical beautiful flower we all ewww and ahhh over. But the minute I took a second look I was reminded why I took it in the first place. Out in the middle of a pasture when Mr Shabby and I had headed for some  adventure, last Spring.  

It came to me as I looked closer, I could see the new life opening up, that while at first glance, it seemed just a weed.. Then the more I looked at it, I could just hear Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made every thing beautiful in its time: also he has put eternity in men’s hearts, so that no man can find out the work that God does from the beginning to the end. I took my camera from around my neck, and took a few shots.. So many times we just simply pass right by and never see what beauty God has right before us.

To me, this weed is proof that God stays true to his word.. It’s a weed, that stands alone, for life it needs the water, the sun, the soil, that God provides. How amazing is our God. So it was no surprise to me  that Jenifer picked this photo, when she too could have chosen any number of my spring photos. From beautiful tulips, hydrangeas, daffodils, cherry blossoms, but she picked the one that spoke to me, to my heart. I say that is pretty amazing, since she had no idea why I took it, and how it spoke to me.. It was only after she picked it that I told her of my encounter with the verse for this one.. So how awesome that they added the verse as well, to the back cover.. The House That Built Me ~

The home I grew up in with my parents ~ Fifteen years of my life as a youngster, until I married.The Dream~ And the home where love, lived.

Last week I had a dream about my dad.. Now, is there anything to our dreams? Are they trying to tell us something, or just an overflow of our emotions, or wishes, fears, etc.. Or some of both.. I dreamed that I had gone to the home I grew up in with my parents.. And there was a card on the front porch, addressed to my family. It said, I worked with, and was in the Navy with your dad, I really liked him. I just stopped by to give you all my condolences .. I was crying in the dream, thinking why did he bring it here, to this home.. They have not lived here in over 35 years, and may dad passed away three years ago. So, why now I thought, why this card three years later, I was thinking in my dream??..I never gave any thought to why I was standing on the porch of my childhood home in that dream, but I knew that it was no longer our home somehow in that dream.. But part of my past, since I had not been there in over 35 years.

I leaned up against the front door, it flew open, and I went in. It was just as I had remembered, but it had new beautiful hardwood floors through out, they were oak and so pretty. I thought wow, this makes the home look bigger. I felt the same emotions and feelings while in there, that I did as a child,those easier feelings of no worries.. It was a nice place to go in my dreams.. So nice, that yesterday I went by that home, and so many things came rushing back to me.. I took out my cell and was about to snap a photo when a lady appeared in the front glass door, and threw up her hands as if to say “what are you doing” I didn’t want her to think I was casing her home, so I pulled over, thinking ok, Debbie, just walk up and tell her you just wanted one photo, just one, and why.. 

So, I started my walk up the drive, tears flowing, overcome by emotions, I thought I had under control before ever deciding to walk up and explain..When I made it up the stairs I was met at the door by a man now. I could hardly speak,as I said, I was overcome with emotion. He was so kind, and as I began to explain he said oh it’s ok honey, yes please take all the photos you want. I then looked through the open door where he was standing and I saw the most beautiful oak hardwood floors, just like in my dream..I was like, wow. I thanked them for allowing me to get a photo, and allowing a perfect stranger to share briefly why I was even there to begin with.. It was so good to go there.. For me, this dream was meant for me to go there once again, after all these years to reflect, to remember, to feel those emotions, and to know that it all went by so fast. But, it was good, easy, simple times in that home.. The dream was the driving force for my going back there..Otherwise, I never would have done that. I haven’t in all these years.. Thank you God, and Dad..
